Statement

These quilts explore how communities large and small are intentionally separated from one another through physical barriers, systems, and policies. Abstractions of gates, fences, and hedges separate the viewer from a lovelier space beyond their reach, creating an obstacle and a sense of frustration. Strong words call viewers to look and listen with the hopes that our collective action might overcome the systemic forces that aim to separate communities and turn neighbor against neighbor.
