Statement

Matriarchs investigates women and their relationship to the home by presenting empowered, feminine creatures ruling over their domestic domains. The anonymous "women" are presented as powerful, alluring, and threatening guardians that, instead of being undermined by their association with the home, actually gain their power from it. The hand-cut imagery is culled exclusively from women's interest magazines, pornography, and household catalogs from the 1960s through the 2010s.
