This installation was created for the event So Many Open Houses at the abandoned Mountainaire Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The building, which was also once an apartment complex and a nursing home, had sat empty since the 1990s.
Despite the structure's disrepair, this work makes visible the tiny pulse I imagine coursing through its veins. By creating a staircase of cascading hair, I imply that this building not only retains the energy of its former inhabitants but that it transforms that energy into a symbol of growth. I personify the hotel and imagine that it is still alive.
