UDHR Quilt Project
The UDHR Quilt project is a global collaborative craftivism project with over 130+ contributing artists, led by Stephanie Dunlap & Tal Fitzpatrick. This project is designed to celebrate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) & raise awareness of the ways it is being violated around the world today. This project will also raise funds & awareness for UNHCR through the sale of a forthcoming book about the project. Four quilts will be created from individual blocks featuring the entirety of each Article of the UDHR.
My contribution to the quilt is the block for Article 4. The design comments on the conflict between the prohibition of slavery outlined in the Article, the US prison industrial complex and the 13th Amendment of the United States' Constitution, which allows slavery as the punishment for a crime for which a person has been duly convicted.
